We recently had a physician retire from his family practice after 40+ years within our community. He not only provided primary care but also worked within our hospital as a hospitalist, ER physician and Chief of Staff. He was a true leader and to recognize his we did a media release (they love to be interviewed!) to acknowledge his contributions and the hospital created a new physician leadership award named after him. Now every year at our service and hospital value awards, he will be invited back to present the award to the next physician that has demonstrated leadership. He has been very honoured to receive this recognition.

My role is to assist with recruitment throughout a region and we have independent contract/salaried/fee for service physicians. We have years of service awards 5, 10, 15 plus that are managed by our HR department this includes those that are fee for service that work within our region who support our hospitals etc. There are also other awards given out such as emeritus award from our office, or regional types of awards. Regarding retirements gifts they are only given to salaried physicians as they are employees of the regions.
