Ontario: Do you require CPSO’s Certificate of Professional Conduct BEFORE issuing privileges?

Currently our hospital recognizes a physician’s CPSO website profile during the credentialing process. We will issue privileges before receiving the certificate of professional conduct. How does your organization operate? Do you require the Certificate of Professional Conduct to issue privileges?

Hi Brenna - yes we do require the CPSO CPC before issuing privileges, except in circumstances when there is an urgent need and in this case we use a print out from the CPSO's physician profile along with at least one reference letter and insurance/police check. Stacey Cusson-Neira

Hi,
Yes, we require the certificate of good conduct as well as references. If any portion of the credentialing documents are not provided, the application is considered incomplete and privileges are not approved until everything is completed. There have to be extremely exceptional circumstances for privileges to be approved when something is missing from the application.

Yes, we do require it in advance here.
In urgent situations if temporary privileges were needed for a one-off scenario, then we would be OK to default to the CPSO website provided other references were positive. We would often try to obtain a letter of good standing from a physician's current hospital or Program Director, if new grad, as additional documentation in a temporary privileging type of scenario until such time as the certificate of professional conduct was received.

Hello,

During my Medical Affairs days we used to issue Temporary privileges only after checking the CPSO website. Any other level of privileges required a Certificate of Professional Conduct.
