Alberta Health Services – Edmoton Rural Corridor, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine with Anesthesia Physician to establish a full-time practice in the community of Cold Lake. This position will provide services in Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, Anesthesia, and Long-Term Care.

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate’s independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Duties include but not limited to:

• Establish and maintain a full-time practice within the community of Cold Lake, with flexibility to offer remote based services if visiting another site, when and where necessary.
• Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services.
• Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including equal participation in the Diagnostic Radiologist call schedule, as required.
• Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies.
• Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Diagnostic Radiology.
• Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
• Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned.
• Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.

Qualifications

• Current Alberta Practice Permit or valid CPSA Letter of Eligibility to practice in the advertised position (proof of to be included with application)
• Recent hands-on experience (within the past 2 years) in all areas of practice noted within the Description, as the sole provider
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or willingness to obtain before starting the position.
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or willingness to obtain before starting the position.
• College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
• College of Family Physicians of Canada – Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM)
• Geriatrics
• Rural Emergency Room Experience
• Sole provider of Anesthesia services (Diploma required, with a minimum of six months pre & post diploma experience).

The Cold Lake Healthcare Centre serves the communities of Cold Lake and parts of Northwest Saskatchewan and Northeast Alberta. The total population of the service area is approximately 30,000 people. The Centre houses acute and long-term care beds and supports general practitioners and visiting specialists in the areas of radiology, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, Orthopaedics, psychiatry and internal medicine. Cold Lake is a part of the Northern Lights School Division #69 and also the Lakeland Catholic School District #150, both headquartered in Bonnyville; and the Conseil Scolaire Regional Centre Est. No. 3 headquartered in St. Paul. There are over a dozen educational institutions in the area from daycare to public schools, separate schools, and also Francophone options. Portage College offers continuing post-secondary education opportunities at the Cold Lake campus, which include GED preparation, computer training courses and industry-based training, as requested by local industry and business.

The focal point of outdoor recreational activities is the 250-berth marina on Cold Lake, one of the largest in-land marinas in Western Canada.
