Associate/Full Professor, Division Director, Division of Hospital Medicine
Description
The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications for an academic position within the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. This position is a part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).
This full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track (contingent) position comprises approximately 25% time for clinical service and 75% time for academic pursuits, divided between research, teaching, and administrative duties (negotiable).
This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenure-track appointment as a Division Director, with the rank of Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
Position Responsibilities
● Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic leadership to advance the division’s academic clinical innovation, research, and educational missions. This includes close collaboration with the Clinical Section Lead to support excellence in patient care.
● Education and Mentorship: Work closely with teaching faculty education leads to foster a strong, supportive learning environment for Undergraduate and Postgraduate medical learners. Provide mentorship and support for faculty, involvement in teaching, and ongoing professional development.
● Research Contribution: Advance the division’s research portfolio, including facilitating funding opportunities, promoting academic productivity, and supporting faculty in achieving high-impact publications. Successfully compete for research funding and maintain an active, independent research program that contributes to the division’s academic strength.
● Collaboration and Engagement: Build partnerships within the university, healthcare system, and broader hospital medicine community to strengthen the division’s academic and clinical impact.
Qualifications
Interested applicants must have:
● MD degree (or equivalent)
● Completed subspecialty training in Pediatrics
● Substantial clinical experience caring for Pediatric patients in a busy tertiary care inpatient setting as an attending physician
● Certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent
● Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
Considered an asset:
· Advanced research or educational training (i.e. MSc, MEd, or PhD)

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada’s first and largest province-wide, fully integrated health system, responsible for delivering health services to the over four million people living in Alberta as well as to some residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. The Stollery Children’s Hospital is a full-service pediatric hospital and centre for complex pediatric care and research. It is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children and youth in central and northern Alberta. It has among the highest inpatient volumes of any children’s hospital in Canada and serves a geographical area of over 500,000 km.
The successful applicant will join 4 academic pediatric hospitalists as well as a dedicated group of general pediatricians with diverse practices in providing a full spectrum of clinical services. In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and has a fully accredited Pediatric specialty-training program through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The division also has an active basic and clinical science research program, collaborating locally, nationally, and internationally.
About WCHRI
The Women and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI) supports researchers within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Alberta Health Services. With a focus on advancing women’s, children’s, and perinatal health, WCHRI provides extensive resources for faculty conducting research in these areas.
As a member of WCHRI, the successful candidate will have access to funding opportunities, biostatistical expertise, qualitative design support, knowledge translation resources, and clinical trials services. WCHRI also invests in research development by supporting trainees through scholarships, fellowships, and travel grants for presenting research outcomes.
