Emergency Medicine – Grande Prairie
The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital is a newly opened “state-of-the-art” 240+ bed regional facility and is currently accepting applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) emergency medicine physician.
The successful candidate must have current experience (within 1-2 years) in a busy Regional Emergency Department and be Royal College certified/eligibility (RFCPC) or hold Canadian College of Family Physician – Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM) certification.
Reside in and have as his/her primary residence, Grande Prairie
Equitable and fair participation in the emergency call schedule for the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital
Provide hospital and call support, as required
Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities
Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties as assigned

GRANDE PRAIRIE: Located about 450 kilometers northwest of Edmonton, and about the same distance north of Jasper National Park, Grande Prairie offers the best of both worlds – big city amenities without losing the comfort of a smaller community and close proximity to outstanding wilderness areas. The City of Grande Prairie is an economically strong and culturally diverse large urban centre, with a population of about 75,000 and growing.

Cross-country ski trails and a downhill ski facility just south of the city take full advantage of the scenic Wapiti River valley, well known for its wealth of dinosaur artifacts. The Prairie Art Gallery, Centre for Creative Arts, Second Street Theatre, a Live Theatre group and a college theatre all run drama and arts programs and productions for community members of all ages. A northern service centre for agriculture, forestry and petroleum industries, Grande Prairie is also a major retail shopping centre for a surrounding population of close to 250,000 people. An array of charming shops and boutiques add variety to the major retail stores and malls in Grande Prairie.

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital (GPRH) is a 208 bed acute care facility with a busy emergency department, ICU, NICU and specialty services in OB/Gyn, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, urology, palliative care, pediatrics, and psychiatry; hosting 10,000 discharges, approximately 55,000 emergency department visits, over 1,400 deliveries and more than 9,000 surgical procedures annually. The new hospital also includes radiation therapy services, further increasing the capacity to provide services to the people of Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia.

Required Qualifications:
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC) – Fellow, Royal College of Physicians Canada or EQUIVALENCY
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
Current independent Emergency experience in a busy emergency regional referral facility
Desired Qualifications:
Certificate of the College of Family Physicians (CCFP) – Emergency Medicine (Required if not EM specialist trained)
Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP)
