The Department of Psychiatry, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) are seeking to recruit a 0.6 FTE Academic Psychiatrist to support its Schizophrenia Division. The successful candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician Teacher and must be eligible for a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, at the University of Toronto. The effective start date is December 1st, 2025, or a mutually agreeable date shortly thereafter.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada’s premier addiction and mental health facility and a world leader in the diagnosis and care of patients with addiction and mental disorder, offering a wide spectrum of care from treatment for first episode to care for the severely and persistently mentally ill. It is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, the largest and most prestigious research-intensive University in Canada. CAMH, together with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, has a strong tradition in the integration of clinical, teaching and research activities.

The Schizophrenia Division at CAMH is a large and dynamic academic clinical division that provides high-quality clinical services to individuals experiencing schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders, coupled with exceptional teaching, and world-class research. Situated within the Schizophrenia Division, the Slaight Centre is Canada’s largest clinical research centre dedicated to innovative research and clinical care for youth and young adults in the early stages of a psychotic disorder. The successful candidate will join a diverse and collegial team of over 40 psychiatrists and scientists across the Schizophrenia Division, and will provide exemplary team-based psychiatric care for people experiencing the early stages of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders within the Slaight Centre Early Psychosis Intervention Service. The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs of the University of Toronto Department of Psychiatry.

The successful candidate will provide exemplary outpatient team-based psychiatric care for people experiencing the early stages of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders. The successful candidate will have excellent clinical psychiatry skills, as well as a demonstrated excellence in working as a member of multi-disciplinary teams. Experience working in early psychosis services and providing coordinated specialty care is required. Given the integrated clinical research environment and academic mission of CAMH and the Slaight Centre, an established track record of supporting clinical research in schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders, demonstrated through involvement in clinical research studies and trials, supporting recruitment, enrollment, and medical management of research participants, and related research publications in this population, is required. Experience with treatment resistant schizophrenia and the utilization of clozapine in outpatient settings is also required. A track record of successful leadership of clinical research services for individuals with schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders is also required. The incumbent will have a desire to work in and contribute to an active academic environment, with a commitment and experience in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Additional experience in creative professional activity and quality improvement are an asset.

Applicants must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD), have completed postgraduate training in Psychiatry, and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Academic rank will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Remuneration is in accordance with the compensation of a psychiatrist in the province of Ontario, and is comprised of a combination of clinical stipends, fees for service, funding through Academic and Educational Trust Funds, and on-call stipends, and will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
