ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone has an immediate opening for a permanent full-time Thoracic Surgeon to join the Thoracic Surgery Division at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s, NL. Short-term locum positions are also available for candidates interested in coverage opportunities.

The successful candidate will join an established group in an academic setting and will be primarily responsible for a clinical workload consisting of the surgical care of inpatients — including consultations, surgery, and follow-up visits — as well as outpatient care in an ambulatory clinic setting. On-call commitment will be shared equitably with other physicians in the Thoracic Surgery Division.

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution

·       Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery (or equivalent) with subspecialty in Thoracic Surgery

·       Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)

·       Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
·       Provide surgical care to thoracic surgery inpatients including consultations, surgery, and follow-up visits

·       Deliver outpatient care in an ambulatory clinic setting

·       Participate in the on-call schedule shared equitably among Thoracic Surgery Division members

·       Work collaboratively within an established academic surgical team

·       Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

Permanent Full-Time: Remuneration will be in accordance with the Alternate Payment Plan (APP).
