The Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) will play a key role in advancing this vision by helping lead the evolution of our digital health systems to enable high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care.
The Opportunity
PRHC is seeking a licensed physician to serve as Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO). This part-time role (1 day per week) provides an opportunity to offer physician leadership and strategic direction at the intersection of clinical care and health information technology. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the CMIO will collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to ensure digital tools and data are integrated thoughtfully to improve care delivery, patient safety, and outcomes.
This position is ideally suited for a dynamic, digitally-minded physician who is passionate about advancing care through health informatics and the optimization of digital systems.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
· Support the execution of clinical informatics strategy in collaboration with the Director, Informatics.
· Serve as a liaison between clinical staff, IT, informatics, data operations, and executive leadership.
· Champion innovation in digital health, AI, and data-driven care delivery.
· Represent PRHC on relevant regional decision-making bodies and serve as a liaison between these and PRHC medical leadership.
Clinical Systems Oversight
· Support the optimization of EPIC and other clinical systems.
· Promote interoperability and integration across platforms.
· Ensure clinical best practices are integrated into digital health initiatives.
Change Management and Training
· Facilitate clinician engagement and adoption of health IT tools.
· Oversee training programs to enhance digital literacy and system usability.
· Address clinician feedback and drive continuous improvement.
Data Governance and Analytics
· Collaborate with data teams to ensure accurate, actionable clinical data.
· Support population health, quality improvement, and research initiatives.· Ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
Innovation and Research
· Evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., AI, telehealth, wearable tech).
· Lead or support clinical informatics research and pilot programs.
Position Qualifications
· Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
· Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), or equivalent (e.g., American Board Certification)
· Eligible for Active or Associate staff privileges at PRHC
Experience & Skills
· Strong interest and comfort with health technology and medical informatics
· Leadership experience preferred
· Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, including relationship-building, conflict resolution, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
· Proven ability to manage change and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
· Solid understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare operations
· Excellent systems thinking and analytical skills with an organization-wide perspective
