The NWT Ophthalmologist works out of the Eye Clinic and Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife. They train, supervise, and manage a team of ophthalmic technologists, have guaranteed weekly OR time, and take part in a generally relaxed call schedule.
The teaching opportunities are numerous throughout the year. The Ophthalmologist supports an accredited two-year Ophthalmic Medical Technician Training Program for new techs in coordination with the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA). We also host the University of Alberta ophthalmology residents during elective placements. This is a great way to share a passion for ophthalmology while supporting the next generation of professionals! There is excellent subspecialty support from Edmonton including retinal teleophthalmology services and in-house monthly clinics with a retinal specialist in Yellowknife.
Annual Salary range of $533,547 – $583,547 including benefits, plus bonuses of $25,000 – $100,000, health and dental, a generous pension plan, outstanding leave benefits, relocation assistance, and professional development opportunities and education support. Our graduate physicians are also typically eligible for student loan forgiveness through Canada’s Loan Forgiveness program.
