Recovery Alberta, Edmonton Zone Department of Addiction & Mental Health in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry, are inviting applications for two (2) academic / tenured track Academic Medicine and Health Service Program (AMHSP) positions for a child and adolescent psychiatrist with a special interest in primary care in rural and marginalized groups.  The AMHSP is jointly overseen by Recovery Alberta and the University of Alberta.  This presents an exciting opportunity for viable academic career development as a practicing clinical specialist. The candidate(s) selected for this position will be referred to the AMHSP Arrangement Management Committee to finalize yearly individual service agreement jointly approved by the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Addiction and Mental Health, Recovery Alberta.

 

Job information:

The clinical component of these positions will include community child and adolescent psychiatry clinics and development of services with, and for, primary care providers.  These services will emphasize primary care of child psychiatry patients and unique rural populations, including indigenous communities.  Consultative, urgent care, and emergency care services outside of large centres are also a priority.  We are seeking motivated clinicians who are interested in direct care and who are also highly motivated in development of systems and team-based delivery of care to reach communities and families outside of large centres.

 

Qualifications: 

Candidates must be qualified psychiatrists with subspecialty training and/or designation in child and adolescent psychiatry. Preference will be given to psychiatrists with previous interest in, and/or additional training or experience in, working with primary care practitioners outside of large centres or those who have an interest in working with marginalized populations.  The position will allow up to 0.5 FTE protected for medical education and research, and the remaining FTE will be clinical services with AHS. Successful applicants will integrate medical education in their careers for learners at all levels, including practicing professionals via education for continuing professional development.  For those interested in research, successful applicants will apply for grants to assist in funding research projects and will present and publish as a part of their research career.
