The community of Estevan, located in Southeast Saskatchewan is actively recruiting a Family Medicine Physician with enhanced Surgical skills to support surgical needs in Estevan and Weyburn. In addition to providing 1-2 days/week of surgical services, the successful candidate has the opportunity to provide additional services such as community primary health care, inpatient and long-term care, and emergency room. As a member of the surgical services team, the candidate will provide their equitable share of on call for surgical services in a 1:3 rotation .
St. Joseph’s in Estevan is a fully accredited Hospital with two operating theaters, a labor and delivery ward, a 24-hour emergency room, an inpatient unit, a diagnostic imaging department with a CT scanner and a dialysis unit. Additional information on St. Joseph’s Hospital can be found here.
The ideal candidate will be professional, have excellent communication skills, and thrive in a team-based environment with a commitment to patient and family-centered care in addition to the below qualifications:
- Certified with the College of Family Physicians of Canada
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan
- Acceptable enhanced training in Surgical Skills (i.e. 3rd-year residency in FM- Enhanced Surgical Skills)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Pediatric Advanced
- Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Valid driver’s license
- Successful Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) credentialing including but not limited to acceptable reference checks and criminal record check with vulnerable sector
- Current Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada
The successful candidate may be eligible for:
- Relocation funding (return of service required) – please inquire for details.
- The Family Medicine Resident Bursary Program which provides up to a maximum of $75,000 over three years to family medicine residents, and those pursuing R3 programs who will work full-time in rural, regional, or northern Saskatchewan
- The Rural Physician Incentive Program (RPIP) which provides up to $200,000 over five years to family physicians practicing, or returning to practice, in rural and remote communities in Saskatchewan
- The SMA Retention Fund, which provides financial reward to physicians who practice in the province for extended periods ranging from $7,000 – $14,000 per year for full time work
