Job Summary
NL Health services are seeking applications for the position of Regional Chief of Primary Care. This position is accountable for the leadership and management of primary health care in the Eastern Rural Zone. This includes providing professional strategic medical leadership and knowledge to the zone. They will play a key role in establishing and maintaining clinical services at Category B Hospitals, Long Term Care Facilities, Family Care Teams, and support community physicians. They will be a leader in the integration of physicians, other practitioners, and employees within the zone to better coordinate health services and ensure patients receive high quality, timely health care. Participate in physician recruitment, engagement, retention, and performance management initiatives. Operating in a complex and dynamic health care environment, the successful candidate is an innovative, collaborative, and transformational leader who will bring an unparalleled passion for health care. As this position works across a region within the Provincial Health Authority, travel within the region may be required.
The Clinical Chief of Primary Care is accountable to the Senior Medical Director of the Zone and VP Medical Services, Chief of Staff within NL Health Services.
The term is three years with annual review, which may be extended for an additional three years pursuant to NLHS Bylaws Respecting Medical Staff. We are looking for individuals who have strong leadership and communication capabilities, can motivate team members, move projects forward, and can translate innovative ideas into reality.
Responsibilities:
· Provide physician leadership and strategic direction for Primary Health Care across the Zone.
· Collaborate with senior medical and operational leadership to develop and implement Zonal primary care priorities
· Lead initiatives that improve timely access to comprehensive, coordinated, team-based primary health care.
· Foster strong partnerships with Family Care Teams, community physicians, specialists, and interdisciplinary health professionals.
· Lead change management initiatives and support health system transformation.
· Support physician recruitment, retention, mentorship, and succession planning.
· Promote quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-informed clinical practice.
· Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous learning.
· Provide leadership for ongoing professional development, education, research, and innovation.
· Ensure the highest quality of service is delivered consistently across all professional staff.
Qualifications
· Must be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPSNL)
· Eligible for membership of the medical staff of NLHS
· Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice
· Experience and/or academic preparation in health care management or leadership
· Training and/or education in leadership/management would be an asset and strongly beneficial to the role.
