Rheumatology Opportunity at The Moncton Hospital
The Moncton Hospital, a facility within Horizon Health Network, is recruiting an additional Rheumatologist to begin working as soon as possible. This is a permanent and/or locum opportunity. Services include inpatient and outpatient rheumatology. The practice would consist of almost exclusively inflammatory conditions, with a very high prevalence of connective tissue diseases, vasculitis (in particular ANCA associated vasculitis), and other systemic inflammatory diseases. Our clinic is equipped with an excellent ultrasound machine which could be shared with another rheumatologist interested in MSK ultrasound. The Moncton Hospital is also a reference center for pulmonary hypertension for New Brunswick. The Moncton Hospital is a 386-bed tertiary and critical care facility within Horizon Health Network. It is a major referral hospital which serves communities throughout New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia. Most major services and subspecialties are available: general surgery (including hepatobiliary), thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, interventional radiology, major orthopedics, neurosurgery and neuroradiology, ENT, urology, high risk obstetrics (approximately 1400 deliveries per year), gynecology and plastic surgery (including burns). The Moncton Hospital is a level 2 provincial referral trauma center. The intensive care unit has a 10-bed medical-surgery unit and 6 bed neurosurgical unit. The Moncton Hospital offers excellent opportunities for teaching and clinical research and has academic affiliation with Dalhousie University and Memorial University of Newfoundland. The hospital is one of the largest employers within metro Moncton, employing 3,000 staff and physicians.

About the Facility:
Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital is located in the city of Moncton. Situated in the centre of this vibrant and friendly city, The Moncton Hospital is a leader in health care delivery and health promotion.
The hospital is a level 2 trauma centre that includes tertiary care for neurosurgery, neonatal intensive care and maternal fetal medicine services. It serves as a referral centre for these tertiary services and other specialty services across New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia.
The Moncton Hospital is among Canada’s leading centres for neurosurgery, neurology and active advanced-stage oncology (cancer) services and is home to the NB Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit, the NB Organ and Tissue Program and the Perinatal NB Program.
The Moncton Medical Education Program, affiliated with Dalhousie University and Memorial University of Newfoundland, and the following fully accredited teaching programs are administered through The Moncton Hospital: Dietetic Internship Program, the School of Radiologic Technology and Research, and the Pharmacy Residency Program.
The area’s health services cover a catchment population of approximately 192,000 people.
Hours of Work:
37.5 hours/week
Job Duties:
· Provide inpatient care including daily rounds on patients
· Provide consultations to hospital-based patients as requested by attending staff
· Provide an outpatient service for the assessment and management of both new and follow-up patients
· Ensure adequate coverage for patients during times of absence, as defined by the Department Rules
· Honour consultation requests in a timely manner
· Provide telephone consultation to colleagues
· Teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students
· Teaching responsibilities for nursing and peers as appropriate
· Participate in departmental and other appropriate Internal Medicine and hospital committees
· Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs
· Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate
· Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved
Adhere to call responsibilities, including Internal Medicine call rota, as arranged. On-call response time is 10 minutes to answer your pager and be accessible to attend at the bedside within 30 minutes for urgent issues, unless alternative arrangements are defined by the department Rules.
Remuneration:
The candidate will be remunerated on a salaried model. Salaried locums will receive a 10% in lieu of benefits via Medicare approval.
Incentives:
$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service. (via pre-approval from Department of Health)
Relocation reimbursement of up to $8,000.

Qualifications:
The Department of Internal Medicine requires that its active and courtesy members have passed the examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the examination of la Corporation professionnelle des médecins du Québec. In circumstances where no Canadian trained applicants are available, the Department will consider physicians with American Boards who are able to obtain licensure in the State of Maine.
