ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone invites applications for a permanent full-time Neurologist at Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, NL.

The successful candidate will join an established and collaborative Neurology team, providing comprehensive neurological services to patients across the Eastern Urban Zone and the broader province. The position includes both inpatient and outpatient neurology, with on-call coverage shared equitably among the physician group. Health Sciences Centre is the provincial tertiary referral centre, and the Neurology Program serves patients from all regions of Newfoundland and Labrador.

NL Health Services is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and opportunities for teaching, research, and scholarly activities are available.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Neurology (or equivalent)
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Subspecialty training or interest considered an asset

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide comprehensive neurological care including inpatient and outpatient services
  • Conduct and/or interpret diagnostic tests and procedures to determine the nature of neurological illness
  • Make diagnoses based on test results and patient observation
  • Discuss treatment options with patients and their families
  • Participate in on-call coverage shared equitably among the Neurology physician group
  • Contribute to teaching and scholarly activities through the Memorial University affiliation
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members and other Medical Staff as required
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

Remuneration will be either salaried in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador, or Fee-For-Service in accordance with the Medical Care Plan (MCP) Payment Schedule, commensurate with level of training and experience. Remuneration model will be discussed and confirmed with the successful candidate.
